Veganism has been a trend for a very long time. Especially since giving up tasty meat for green leaves requires strong-will and determination. The fact that not everyone can do it, makes veganism more coveted. But that did not stop young Americans from trying it. Studies show that the number of people adopting veganism is increasing. Well, veganism rules out many things from a person’s “edible” list. With the introduction of CBD in the market, many vegans wonder whether they can add it to their list or ignore it like how they usually do. So first things first, is CBD vegan?
Is CBD Vegan?
CBD or cannabidiol, as some call it, is a chemical compound extracted from the stems, leaves, flowers, and stalks of the natural hemp plant using ethanol or other mechanisms. The hemp plant was legalized in the US because of the very less amount of THC in it (lesser than 0.3%) and the main component of the plant has medicinal properties. It is used extensively to treat epilepsy. It is also used as pain killers, for insomnia, hair fall, seizers and other diseases.
So, the answer to the question is YES! CBD is completely vegan. The list gets a little longer!
Wait! Not all CBD products are vegan.
Are CBD Products Vegan?
Some CBD products are vegan. Some of them are not.
This would depend on whether the materials added to the extracted CBD are vegan. Some of the CBD products like CBD gummies and CBD chocolates contain milk or other dairy products- making it non-vegan. CBD capsules also have non-vegan ingredients in it.
Just like non-vegan CBD products, there are a good number of vegan CBD products too. One of them is CBD oil, which is made by mixing the extracted CBD with hemp oil or coconut oil – both vegan ingredients. CBD oil is rich in omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. A full-spectrum CBD oil that does not contain any other products has an ideal ratio of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids.
Most of the cosmetics are not vegan-friendly. They will contain some ingredients that are commonly used in all beauty products.
If you are hell-bent on using only vegan products, the best option is to check the label of the CBD product for its ingredients. Read through the list to confirm that it does not contain any animal products.
